In 2008, the Westport Downtown Merchants Association, deciding to bring some
good old southern charm to the town of Westport, CT and pioneer the Blues
Views and BBQ Festival. The two-day event is a great time that melds
together the worlds of BBQ and Blues. There is live entertainment with a
full music line-up, craft beer and activities for children and families. In
addition, there are two BBQ competitions, for amateur's and certified pros.
In fact, our “pros” competition is an official Kansas City BBQ Society
Competition and serves as A Connecticut Sate BBQ Championship.
After its first year, this swingin' street party, complete with tantalizing
tastes and soulful sounds proved to be quite a success. In hopes to develop
the event even more, a new event has been added to the chopping block,
called “Cookin” for a Cause'. This year, rather than the first day's
competition simply being an amateur, backyard competition where winning
chefs win a personal prize, the town will be coming together for and cooking
for a cause!
Teams of 2 - 4 backyard chefs enter into the competition and have the
opportunity to win three BBQ categories; Chicken, ribs, and chef's choice.
The winner of each category will receive a fabulous prize and trophy. The
money raised will be donated to the CT Food Bank.
The Connecticut Food Bank, founded in 1982, works to alleviate hunger by
supplying food and resources to 650 food-assistance programs in six of
Connecticut's eight counties: Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven,
New London and Windham. Connecticut Food Bank distributes food to programs,
such as soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries and adult and child day care
centers. In 2008, Connecticut Food Bank distributed more than 16 million
pounds of food to food-assistance programs, including food pantries, soup
kitchens, shelters, and youth and adult day programs. That's about 31 tons
of food every business day.
The town of Westport and the DMA encourages you to be part of this foot
stomping, mouth-watering event. We invite you to put forth a team of chef's
to cook for a specific cause. So come on, put on your apron, don your napkin
and enjoy it all while doing something good.
